Herdon, VA, Sacred Threads Exhibit, July, 2015
My inspiration for this quilt came from my encaustic painting from a photograph my two small children taken years ago. Rising from the darkness of adversity at the bottom of the quilt with the death of their father, my husband and I on our wedding day, his presence gradually fading from our lives, the colours increase in intensity with the phoenix rising, a symbol of resurrection and renewal of life. A friend looked at the quilt in progress and said: it’s colourful chaos, as the colours seemed to take on a life of their own.
